The Lincoln Lawyer - Trailer

THE LINCOLN LAWYER - TRAILER

The Lincoln Lawyer

I found myself with a few hours spare in London the other day and went to see The Lincoln Lawyer.

A good film with some very good performances from Matthew McConnaughy, Marisa Tomei and William H Macy.

I didn't know anything about the film in advance and I suppose I was expecting a sort of John Grisham style film. I wasn't as political as soem of Grisham's but non-the-less it worked very well and managed to keep a godd twist for the end of the film.

I would recommend this film as a good thriller that is easy to watch without too many complicated twists and turns.

The Godfather Trilogy

Here are some of the trailers from this great trilogy of films!

GODFATHER PART 1

GODFATHER PART 2

GODFATHER PART 3

Which is your favourite Godfather movie?

This has to be my favourite trilogy of films ever!

I remember fondly being allowed to watch as a teenager the first two wonderful movies and just being blown away (no pun intended) by the magical world which these terrifying characters lived in.

The endless stream of talent appearing in the first two films is just movie royalty. Powerhouse performances from Brando, de Niro, Pacino, Duvall etc etc etc. These films just gets better everytime I see them.

The third one was in many peoples eyes inferior and with this view I have to disagree.

Whilst it wasn't as well delivered as the first two and in my opinion the script was not as good it still delivered some great cinematic performances from Pacino and Garcia and it brought to a close a trilogy that needed to be finalised for the many fans out there who wanted closure!

My question is which is the greatest of the three films?

In my opinion Godfather 2 is the one that stands above the others for content (the early years) and for what I believe to be Robert De Niro's finest performance (a well deserved Oscar).

What do you think?

Elizabeth and Elizabeth: The Golden Age

Following on from my previous post here are the trailers from the two great films and an interview with the star of the films. Enjoy!!

ELIZABETH (1998) TRAILER

ELIZABETH: THE GOLDEN AGE TRAILER

CATE BLANCHET TALKS ABOUT ELIZABETH

The Greatest Surprise?

I recently watched the two 'Elizabeth' films with Cate Blanchet starring as the great Queen. I have never had any great desire to watch these films and only by chance saw the first one on TV last week.

What a great surprise!! Fantastic films with excellent acting and direction, great scripts and a real sense of what a difficult time Elizabeth I had in ruling England.

I was gripped from start to finish and particularly loved Geoffrey Rush as Walsingham. Cate Blanchet delivers her finest performances by a long way and I can't believe I waited nearly 14 years to watch a real classic.

Well done to everyone involved in both films. I have to say the first probably has the edge on the second, but both are well worth watching again and again.

What is your favourite period film?

Arthur 2011

Well what can I say about this unremarkable film!!

I went along with an open mind, having been a huge fan of the original and laughed until I cried when I first saw it as a teenager. I am not a massive fan of Russell Brand, but he can be quite funny and when engaged with an audience in his stand up shows, rather than engaged on the phone and being childish to great comedy legends, he does cause me much amusement.

Dudley Moore had two great foils in the original film. The relationships between him and John Guilgud and Liza Minelli made a good script into a fantastic movie. To hear Sir John saying 'you are a spoilt little b**tard' is still very funny 30 years later.

This new version is sadly in a different league to the original. I smiled once about 80 minutes into the film but I can't quite remember if that was at the film or because I had managed to dislodge the piece of popcorn from in between my teeth. Either way it caused a moment of facial exercise that had been sadly lacking for the previous 79 minutes.

I did have the luxury of a private viewing, as I was the only person stupid enough to part with my money to watch this festival of bilious nonsense on this particular afternoon (yes I was the only one in the cinema!!!).

I don't understand why this film has been made. The script is poor. The acting is ordinary. The director was obviously unavailable for much of the shoot. I would have paid more to see the original film had it been showing and I know I would have been entertained even with a film I have seen numerous times in the past 30 years.

Why is Helen Mirren resorting to this role!!! She was remarkable as the Queen and very sadly forgetable in Arthur. It was quite apt her character died because if she carries on in this sort of drivel her career could go the same way!!! Please ma'am go back to the stuff you do 'bloody' well.

Russell Brand nice enough guy, but in this, crap! Not entirely his fault as a bad script and director haven't helped him and neither has trying to fill Dudley Moore's shoes, which was always going to be tricky given that he is twice as tall as the late great comedy genius, Dudley Moore.

I hope that somewhere in the great picture house in the sky Dud and Sir John are looking down and realising how lucky they are that this remake has come along after they have departed this earth!!

Rumour has it that Osama Bin Laden when captured on Monday was being taken to a special screening of Arthur 2011 and just couldn't cope with the thought!!

I would not recommend Arthur 2011 to anyone, and if you are thinking of going, then pop to your nearest store or go online and spend the money on the dvd of the original instead.

I would love to know anyone else's thought's on this movie!!!

The Greatest Ever Movie is.........

Well, if I answer that now the whole blog is finished and has been a complete waste of time!!

Anyway who is to say what the greatest movie of all time is? It may be a horror film or a rom-com, sci fi classic or period drama! One thing is for sure there isn't just one movie that is the greatest of all time.

I will share with you my thoughts on the movie world and give my honest opinions of films that I watch starting later with the new version of 'Arthur'. This was a classic 80's film with Dudley Moore, Liza Minelli and John Guilgud so how would Russell Brand and Helen Mirren compare with the classic original. Find out soon!!
